WORLD PRIDE 2023 - WANT TO MARCH WITH SHUTTLESWINGERS?

Shuttle Swingers Badminton to debut in the 2023 Sydney World Pride Mardi Gras Parade

DATE: Saturday 25 February, Oxford Street

Dress up those rackets and put on your dancing shoes. It’s time to get your sparkle on and swing out with your fellow Swingers. With over 200 floats and 12,500 participants, Shuttle Swingers Women’s Badminton is going to make its worldwide solo debut at the 2023 Sydney World Pride Mardi Gras parade. Whoop Whoop!!

Although we’re still a young club and our float will only be 40 people big, we always said we would take on the world one shuttlecock at a time, and we literally are. We’re going to build and mount the biggest shuttlecock you’ve ever seen. Onto the back of a ute with lights, music and special effects to enhance our presence. How? Well that’s for us to still figure out. Right now, we just need to raise as much money as we can to build our float.

WANT TO MARCH WITH US?

We’d love to invite members and non-members to register their expression of interest to join the parade. Now of course, as a volunteer based community sports club, volunteers are the lifeblood of the work we do. We will be offering places to people who have actively volunteered with us this past year (e.g Fair Day, Competition events, Grant writing, special events, socials etc).

Following this, all remaining tickets will be offered to financial members and then to friends/non-members of Shuttle Swingers. If you are not a financial member of Shuttle Swingers, you can choose to sign up for $45 which will cover you until 30 January, 2024 and give you immediate access to member pricing at our social badminton sessions.

With only 40 spots available, we will run a raffle for those wanting to join should there be too many interested entries, with the unsuccessful registrations being put on a waitlist.

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

If you choose to march with us, you will need to be involved in the choreographed dance routine we are putting together. Don’t be concerned if you think you can’t dance. The crowd will love you for giving it a go, and so will we. It’s not a dance competition and the routine will be simple enough to learn.

An initial run through to show everyone the routine will take place on Saturday 17 December, 10:30am - 11:30am. It will be held at Turrella Reserve and we ask everyone to attend. Thereafter, a special video will be filmed and shared for participants to learn and practice. You must attend at least 3 rehearsals to be part of the float. The last thing we need is to look uncoordinated.

The following dates are the proposed rehearsal dates leading up to the big Parade day. This may be subject to change if the choreographer becomes unavailable and needs to reschedule..

  • Saturday 4 February, 10:30am - 11:30am - Turrella Reserve

  • Thursday 9 February, 6:00 - 7:00pm @ Badmintonworx, Botany

  • Thursday 16 February, 6:00 - 7:00pm @ Badmintonworx, Botany

  • Tuesday 21 February, 6:00 - 7:00pm @ Alpha Badminton, Silverwater

Tickets are $85 per person and will go towards covering the cost of application, your uniform/outfit, costumes and accessories.
